Summary

This lab measures photosynthesis by tracking how quickly leaf disks float in water under a light. Students prepare control and bicarbonate solutions, remove air from leaf disks with a syringe so they sink, then watch oxygen produced during photosynthesis make the disks rise over time. The activity describes how to record floating counts each minute, compare control versus experimental results, and use the data to explain the products of photosynthesis and one way to estimate photosynthesis rate.
