Summary

Many everyday items depend on soil, even when it is not obvious. This activity has students build simple chains that connect common objects to soil through intermediate products and services, then combine them into a shared “soil web” using string and picture cards. It highlights how soil supports crops, trees, livestock, water filtration, minerals, and microbes that contribute to food, clothing, building materials, energy, and medicines. A reflection section helps students relate soil’s importance to different jobs and daily life.
