Summary

This activity introduces where U.S. forests are found and what biomass means, then describes simple ways to measure trees and forests using hands-on math. Students learn the DBH method for measuring tree diameter, practice using pi to connect diameter and circumference, make a basic DBH tape, and calculate stand density as trees per area.
