Environmental Science — Biodiversity Counts
If you have questions about this resource, contact your county Extension office.
Summary
Biodiversity is the variety of life in a community, including how many different species are present and how evenly they are represented. This lesson introduces simple ways to measure biodiversity using richness, evenness, and a diversity index, with hands-on counting activities. It also uses a simulated disaster scenario to show how more diverse communities tend to be more stable and explores how sampling size affects biodiversity estimates.
