A guide to healthy pregnancy weight gain and why it matters. Explains that too little gain can lead to babies who are too small and at higher risk for health problems. Gives recommended total gain ranges based on pre pregnancy weight (underweight 28 to 40 lb, healthy weight 25 to 35 lb, overweight 15 to 25 lb) and describes where the weight goes, including baby, placenta, fluid, blood, breasts, uterus, and maternal fat.
