The Introduction, Spread, and Control of Non-Native, Invasive Species in Tennessee Forests: Chinese Privet
If you have questions about this resource, contact your county Extension office.
Summary
Chinese privet is an invasive shrub that spreads across much of the eastern United States, forming dense thickets that shade out native plants and reduce wildlife habitat. Birds spread the black berries, and plants also resprout from roots and stumps, making control a multi-year effort. This guide explains how to time treatments for best results, including late winter foliar spraying, plus basal bark applications of triclopyr on stems and cut stump treatments with glyphosate or triclopyr to kill the root system and limit regrowth.
