Summary

Chinese silvergrass, also called Miscanthus or zebra grass, is a perennial ornamental that can escape into roadsides and forest edges, forming tall, dense clumps and increasing fire risk. It spreads mainly by rhizomes, with some seed spread by wind and animals. Control is difficult and usually requires repeated mowing, burning, or hand removal before seedheads mature, plus repeated herbicide treatments. Glyphosate applied during active growth can kill roots, but multiple applications are often needed to stop regrowth.
