Summary

There are three commonly encountered tick species in Tennessee associated with tick-borne diseases (TBDs) and can negatively impact people and pets. While antibiotics are available for many of the TBDs, each person responds to pathogens differently and the severity of the disease often increases if treatment is not started early. Because some pathogens can be transmitted quickly when a tick bites, it is important to know how to protect yourself before you are exposed.
