Summary

The Asian needle ant, Brachyponera chinensis (Emery), is an invasive, stinging ant that causes painful, irritating, and sometimes long-lasting sting reactions, and feeds upon forest seed dispersers. Behavioral and visual differences are discussed to easily distinguish this ant from other common pests such as fire ants and odorous house ants. This publication aims to raise awareness of the medical and ecological threats posed by this ant, while also providing management options.
