Rural Poultry Farming in Zambia: Challenges Blended with Opportunities
If you have questions about this resource, contact your county Extension office.
Summary
In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where food production is a challenge, rural poultry offers an affordable way of farming for many smallholder individuals. The rural poultry sector includes indigenous poultry (chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, pigeons, etc.) that mostly scavenge for feed with limited provision of housing, management, nutrition, and disease/parasite control. Extension services have an opportunity to assist in expanding rural poultry production in Zambia and across SSA.
