Summary

Beginner 4‑H Sheep Project outcomes introduce the basics of raising and evaluating sheep. Youth learn common terms, body parts, and basic health practices such as vaccine and injection types, reading medicine labels, and spotting sick vs. normal behavior. Topics also cover key diseases and parasites, ruminant digestion and common feeds/forages, reproduction vocabulary, major breeds and simple performance records, scrapie testing basics, lamb carcass cuts and products, and essential sheep equipment and recordkeeping, with opportunities for skillathons, judging, and showmanship.
