Summary
Otitis, or ear inflammation and infection, in pets, caused by bacteria, yeast, or mites. Ear infections often have underlying factors that make them recurrent or difficult to resolve if not addressed. Common underlying causes include allergies (food or environmental), hormonal disease, chronic or middle ear infections, abnormal ear structure or excess hair, tumors or polyps, and foreign material in the ear canal. Effective treatment focuses on restoring a healthy ear environment through thorough cleaning and appropriate topical or oral medications, which may include antibiotics, antifungals, and anti‑inflammatory agents. Detailed diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cause are essential to prevent recurrence.
